Growing up in the Canadian countryside, Brenda Hickey quickly discovered her love for drawing and storytelling. So much so, that by third grade she made her career choice: She wanted to dedicate her life to comics and art!
After finishing high school and completing a graphic design program at Holland College, Brenda worked on web graphics and background illustrations for animations at a Canadian animation studio. After the closure of said studio, she started out as a freelance artist.
In 2013, Brenda made her debut as IDW comic artist with “My little Pony Micro-Series Issue 6”, featuring the freckled earth pony Applejack. She quickly became one of the most beloved and prolific MLP comic artists!
Over the years, she worked on the “Friends Forever” series, the first six issues of “Legends of Magic”, and was among the few invited artists to contribute to the anniversary issue 100 of the “Friendship is Magic” series! What an honour!
Beyond My Little Pony, Brenda has pursued a number of creative projects of her own. Her self-published fantasy comedy “Halls of the Turnip King” follows reluctant elf prince Tatian on a diplomatic mission to the Dwarven Mines. She also created the webcomic “In the Air” and illustrated the “K: Living With It!” comic series for Bayer Health.
